Patch Tuesday September 2026: major Apple updates, Microsoft regurgitates patches, all the security update news you need for your SMB.

Apple released updates September 14th for all their devices plus new macOS and new iThingyOS.

The new macOS, Golden Gate, requires 23GB of free hard drive to install. Golden Gate is compatible with Macs with an M1 chip or newer. Took about 30 minutes to install on my Mac mini. Details on new Golden Gate features and fun here.

The new iOS 27 requires 5.67GB of hard drive space. Details on the new iOS 27 features here.

If you don’t have the hard drive space, you can opt for iOS 26.7 which only requires 2.43GB of space.

Apple released updates for all their other iThingys (Watch, TV, Safari, etc.) on September 14th plus revealed iPhone 18 details. Long list of Apple security releases here.

Chrome Security Updates

Google patched their Chrome browser multiple times this month due to various threats mainly related to password and passkey theft. This means all the Chromium browsers, like Microsoft Edge, Vivaldi, DuckDuckGo, also received security updates.

All you have to do is close and reopen your browser(s) to install these security updates. Takes less than a minute from your busy day.

Microsoft regurgitates Patch Tuesday

First Microsoft patched over 1000 security holes on September 8th. Then Microsoft released multiple patches September 14th to fix the problems caused by the September 8th patches.

September 8th Microsoft patches broke numerous USB devices, remote desktop services (RDS) and even broke the paste function in various version of Excel. More details on what the September 14th patches fixed here.

Always a good idea to make sure you have a good backup before running Windows updates.
