Patch Tuesday October 2024

Patch Tuesday October 2024: pumpkin patches for all your security frights.

Bobbing for Apple updates

Apple patched security problems for all their products October 28th.

Apple released updates for macOS Sequoia 15.1, Sonoma 14.71 and Ventura 13.71.

With the release of macOS Sequoia, the only versions of macOS Apple supports are now Sequioa, Sonoma and Ventura. You must be running one of these three to get security patches AND for other software (like Microsoft 365).

Check your iThingys for updates, new versions of iOS and iPad and your Watch.

Macabre Microsoft

Microsoft delivered over 117 frightful patches for security flaws earlier this month. Hackers already exploit two of these security flaws.

One of these flaws exploits the ghost of Internet Explorer. While Microsoft declared Internet Explorer dead years ago, the program still haunts the operating system folders. Very spooky. I’m sure there are other ghosts of Windows past rattling their chains in the operating system just waiting for hacker to release them.

The other flaw concerns the Microsoft Management Console.

Microsoft also fixed a security update problem for Windows 11.

Full details on the Microsoft security massacre here.

Browser Boos

Firefox, Chrome, Microsoft Edge and all other browsers received updates this month to patch security boos.

All you need do is close and reopen your browsers. Daily. You will get the security updates.

Hackers love unpatched browsers because then they can steal login credentials and more easily infect your computer.

Don’t let your browser give you a fright.

WordPress Wizardry

Lots of WordPress plugin updates this month.

Automattic updated the popular JetPack plugin to protect from a flaw that is present in all versions going back to 2016.
