Patch Tuesday October 2018: all the security news you need for your small business computing.
Microsoft released fixes for 49 security flaws across all it’s products including 12 flaws listed a critical. Microsoft patched all version of Office, yes that includes Mac versions. There were also updates for Edge, Windows 10, 8 and 7 as well as server products.
Microsoft re-released Windows 10 Fall Update 2018. The update originally released last week was pulled after deleting users’ document and picture folders. Microsoft claims to have fixed the problem. See my blog for what’s included in the new release. Takes about 45 minutes for the whole installation.
Most of the Apple excitement happened last month with the new version of Mac OS and iOS 12. However there is already an update to iOS 12. You will need to update to the latest iTunes to play nicely with the new iOS.
Shockingly there were no patches for Flash this month. Adobe Acrobat and Reader got an important security upgrade last week. Patch them as soon as possible. Acrobat and Reader flaws are favoured by hackers.
Google released patches to fix multiple security problems. If you have a Google Pixel, you can and should install these updates immediately. If you have another type of Android phone, you’re stuck waiting for the hardware manufacturer to release these patches.
The last update to the WordPress core was in August, your web site should be on version 4.9.8. Numerous plugins were also updated: JetPack, Yoast SEO, UpdraftPlus, and many others. Be sure to schedule time to update your web site.
