Patch Tuesday July 2025: SharePoint, iThingys and more security updates for your small business. If you’re not sure what to patch or why, read Patch Primer for Small Business.

SharePoint Zero Day
Lots in the news about the Microsoft SharePoint hack. Yes, the US Department of Defence was hacked among many other entities. However the SharePoint zero day vulnerability affected organizations running their own SharePoint server on their own hardware. Most small businesses use the Microsoft SharePoint cloud version bundled with their M365 Business licenses and are not at risk from this SharePoint vulnerability. Microsoft pushes security patches onto M365 accounts regularly in the background.
Apple Bytes
Apple released security updates for all their iThingys, Watch, Safari and Mac OS July 29th and July 30th. Apple fixed over 20 vulnerabilities affecting WebKit, networking, filesystem permission issues and Metal graphics.
Security experts for Apple report hackers aren’t exploiting any of these vulnerabilities just yet but update soon. More details on the July Apple security updates here.
Microsoft Updates
Microsoft patched 137 security vulnerabilities in Windows and supporting software earlier this month. At the time of release Microsoft claimed no one was actively exploiting these but this was before the SharePoint hack news arrived.
Two of the most high severity bugs affected Microsoft Defender SmartScreen. Microsoft Defender is the built into Windows to block untrusted downloads and malicious sites.

Microsoft has also released more support details for computers that can’t be updated from Windows 10. The scheduled End Of Life (EOL) for Windows 10 is October this year. See my blog Windows 10 End of Life options for more details.

Adobe Updates
Adobe released updates for the Adobe Creative Suite July 8th. No updates for Acrobat this month but updates for InDesign, Illustrator, and After Effects.

Patch Tuesday July 2025
An ounce of patching is cheaper than a pound of hacking. Be sure to schedule some time to update your devices.
