Patch Tuesday April 2025: security showers for everyone.

Apple Updates
March 31st Apple released a large security update for macOS Sequoia, Sonoma and Ventura. The Sequioa update requires a whopping 6.17 GB of disk space and takes over 30 minutes to install depending on your hardware.
Apple also released security updates for iThingys so it’s now version 18.4. Also Apple released security updates for iOS 17.7. 6, 16.7.11 and 15.8.4. Those are updates that last month folks running version 18 and up received. It’s definitely more secure to run version 18 and up so you get the security updates faster.
No April’s Fools joke, Apple released watchOS 11.4 on April 1st. Still haven’t fixed the battery issue.
More details on Apple Security updates here.

Adobe Agony
Adobe released security updates this Patch Tuesday for almost half of the Creative suite: AfterEffects, Premiere Pro, Animate, Photoshop, etc.
No updates for Adobe Acrobat or Reader. Details on latest Adobe security updates here.

Google Chrome
Google released a ton of updates for Chrome which effects every browser based on Chrome (like Vivialdi, DuckDuckGo, Opera).
Installing these important updates is easy, just restart your browser. Please.

Microsoft Updates
This Patch Tuesday (April 8th), Microsoft released updates to plug over 120 security holes in Windows operating systems and software. Eleven of these security holes earned Microsoft’s most emphatic “critical rating” which means hackers can exploit them with little or no user interactions=.
Unlike the big Apple update, the Microsoft Windows updates took only 5 minutes after rebooting to install.
However it left behind a mystery. On both Windows 10 and Windows 11, the update installed an empty folder, inetpub on the C: drive. This folder usually goes with Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) a web server platform that 99% of regular users should not have running. Bleeping Computer followed up with Microsoft about this and Microsoft confirms, yes the April update installed the folder, no IIS was not installed and users should not delete the folder. Details on the inetpub folder mystery here.
