Patch Tuesday September 2025

What is Patch Tuesday? Most software vendors release their security updates on the second Tuesday of each month. Not sure what to patch or why? Read Patch Primer for Small Business.

Apple Harvest

Apple released their new iPhones yesterday. They also announced they will release the new iOS and other updates for all their devices on September 15th.

Watch September 15th for updates for all your iThingys and schedule some time for patching.

This is list of iPhones that will support the new iOS 26.

Adobe Acrobat Updates

Adobe released security updates for Adobe Acrobat for both Mac and Windows yesterday. Normally the software auto-updates but you can check for updates by going to the Help menu.

Android Update Array

Google released a stunning 120 patches for the Android phone operating system. More details on the Android mega patch bomb here.

Unfortunately if you happen to own an Android device made by another manufacturer (Samsung for example), you will have to wait for the manufacturer to release those updates.

Microsoft Updates

Yesterday Microsoft issued updates to patch more than 80 security problems with their products. While none of the security problem were labeled zero-day, Microsoft reported 13 security holes as critical.

Be sure you have a good backup before running updates.

Also note you now have one month left of Windows 10 updates. You need to upgrade Windows 10 devices that support Windows 11 as soon as possible. For perfectly good Windows 10 devices that can’t support Windows 11, see my blog Windows 10 End of Life Options.

Environmental Cost of Updates

Expect a big mound of e-waste generated by Microsoft and Apple with these latest updates. Besides perfectly good Windows 10 computers getting chucked, Apple has stopped updates for older iPhones and iPads adding to the pile. It’s estimated the switch to iOS 26 will add 75 million iPhones to the e-waste pile.

There are two places that recycle old devices for charity, Reboot Canada and Electronic Recycling. Those old devices are full of minerals and metals required to make new devices.
