London Drugs reopens stores gradually. Over half with core services open now, London Drugs expects to open all stores by end of Tuesday May 7th. Pharmacies cannot accept new prescriptions at this point.
What happened?
London Drugs is still being coy about the nature of the cyber incident. That they cannot accept new prescriptions yet does not automatically mean their pharmacy system was hacked. London Drugs has to re-link their pharmacy computers with at least four different provincial health authorities (BC, AB, SK, and MB) each with their own security requirements.
London Drugs maintains that to date their investigation shows no signs their pharmacy, customer records or LDExtras databases were compromised.
Why is it taking so long?
As I wrote in my blog London Drugs Day 5, London Drugs IT team and their third party cybersecurity outfit need to check/cleanse/harden at least 30 to 50 computers and network devices at each store.
Open stores very busy
Open stores seem full of customers. All the staff I saw were smiling and happy to see customers. Out of an abundance of caution I did use cash to pay for my purchases.
If you worry about your privacy or credit cards I think it is safe pay cash and avoid LDExtras until London Drugs finishes their investigation and lets folks know what happened.
Store updates
As London Drugs reopens stores gradually they post updates on which stores are open. London Drugs’ latest press release May 6th.
